Biography

Jean François was the second child of René de la Voye and Anne Godin and the hero of Rivière-Ouelle. Jean was born in June 1660 at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. He helped his father to cultivate the land and worked as well on the fields of Séminaire. He became the servant of François Bélanger and Marie Guyon, in the fiefdom Bonsecours of l'Islet. He is the head of the Rivière-Ouelle branch and of the Bas du Fleuve.

October 22 1688 at Rivière-Ouelle, he married Marie Madeleine Boucher of Saint-Denis-de-la-Bouteillerie, daughter of Jean Galleran Boucher and Marie Leclerc. He is one of the heroes who have countered the advance of the American soldiers commanded by Phipps in 1690. The priest of Rivière-Ouelle, Mr. de Francheville, appealed to the parishioners that they repel the first attack of the Bostonians as he had learned that the invaders could attempt a landing at Rivière-Ouelle. It was a complete success and that defeat inflicted upon the Americans was the prelude to the disaster in Quebec awaiting Phipps some days later.

Jean dela Voye was buried in the Rivière-Ouelle cemetery between 1715 and 1718. His spouse, Madeleine Boucher, died at the Hôtel-Dieu in Quebec on March 3rd 1723. They had thirteen children, all of whom were born and baptised at Rivière-Ouelle.

Lavoie-66 and De la Voye-5 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, almost same birth and death dates. same death place. Nothing to make the profiles clearly different, only similarities.
